Updating the toolkit

The toolkit improves over time: new skills, sharper rules, better templates. Updating is quick, and your brand files are never touched.

On the Claude Code desktop app

Paste this into the prompt:

/plugin marketplace update unicorn-marketers

Then reload if it asks you to (/reload-plugins). Your installed skills update to the latest version.

Auto-update needs a GitHub token

Because the toolkit repo is private, automatic update checks on the desktop app only work if a GITHUB_TOKEN with access to the repo is set in your environment. Without one, auto-checks may quietly fail — the manual command above always works (it re-uses your gh login).

On Cowork

1. Open Customize → Plugins.
2. Find the um-toolkit marketplace and click Update.

Automatic updates depend on how the toolkit was added:

• Personal plugin (how most of the roster installs): look for a Sync automatically option on the marketplace entry. If it isn’t there or doesn’t stick for the private repo, just click Update manually now and then — it takes seconds.
• Organization plugin (Claude for Work workspaces only): a workspace admin can turn on automatic syncing for everyone. This works through the Claude GitHub App installed on the repository — it’s an admin toggle, not something each member sets up. Personal accounts don’t have this option.

Don’t assume auto-sync is on: if in doubt, update manually before starting a big piece of work.

What updates affect

• ✅ Skills, rules, templates, knowledge base get the latest version.
• ✅ Your brand files stay exactly as they are. Updating never overwrites your offer, voice, personas, or anything you’ve set up.

How do I know there’s an update?

When you start a session, the toolkit checks its version and mentions it if a meaningful update is available. You can always update manually with the steps above.
